A FAMILY’S CONTINUOUS PRACTICE OF LAW IN TAMPA SINCE 1934

While David Anton has continuously practiced law in Tampa since he graduated from the University of Florida College of Law in 1985, his family has a much longer legal history in Tampa. Louis Schonbrun (David’s grandfather) received his law degree in New York City.  Thereafter, he became licensed to practice law in the State of Florida in 1934.  That same year he began his Tampa legal career which continued until his retirement over 40 years later in the late 1970’s.  A copy of both Mr. Schonbrun’s Florida Bar License and his law school degree are proudly displayed in our office.

The Anton and Schonbrun families’ legal odyssey did not end with Louis Schonbrun’s retirement.  Mr. Anton’s father, uncle and cousin have also practiced law in Tampa.  In fact, Mr. Anton began his legal career under the tutelage of his Uncle (his Mother’s brother), Harvey Schonbrun, with whom he worked for in excess of 20 years.  It would be accurate to say that nearly everything Mr. Anton learned during his first years of practice were absorbed by watching, listening and emulating his Uncle Harvey.  He was an incredible mentor.  Being married to the law took an even deeper meaning and significance when Mr. Anton married Becky Ferrell, now Becky Ferrell-Anton.  Becky is a preeminent Tampa attorney who graduated from Emory University and then the Georgetown College of Law.  She has continuously practiced law in Tampa since 1985.  Given this long history, you can expect that this firm fully understands the customs, idiosyncrasies and modes of operation which define Tampa’s legal system.    

The legal profession has undergone significant change during the past 25 years.  Some of this change has been dictated by changes in social structure, technology, the court system and business customs.  Many of these changes have been for the better though some of the older ways are sorely missed.  While our law firm incorporates state-of-the-art technologies and procedures which are ever-evolving, we will not allow certain time honored things to change.  Integrity, honesty, dignity and compassion should never be removed from the practice of law and are deeply rooted in the mission of our law firm.
